This blog is intended to keep people informed about our home for children in rural Honduras. Since 2006 we've been living in the Cangrejal River Valley on the Northern coast of Honduras.
Unicef, the branch of the United Nations dedicated to helping children, estimates that there are 170,000 children in Honduras who they consider to be orphaned or abandoned. Most of these are children who are abandoned by their parents. Our goal is to help as many of these children as we can.
In December of 2007, Give Hope 2 Kids purchased 100 acres in the Cangrejal Valley for the purpose of starting a home to care for orphaned and abandoned children. Since that time we've planted 10 acres of Mahogany trees, installed our own water supply, connected electricity to the property, built the first three homes for children, built a large activity center, and planted more than six hundred fruit trees.
In July 2011, we took in our first four children, and currently we care for 10 children. In addition to the children's home, we are reaching out to our community by teaching English in our local elementary school, running a community library, providing a weekly youth group for local young people, and providing scholarships for several students from Instituto El Rey. .
Check here for the most recent developments in our efforts to make a difference in our community and the lives of orphaned and abandoned kids.
